Nicolas Ericsson,Consulate Vice-Consul of United States in Chengdu, China, Visited National Research Center of Upper Yangtze Economy for Academic Exchange

In the morning of September 19, 2012, Nicolas Ericsson, Consulate Vice-Consul of United States in Chengdu, China, visited the National Research Center of Upper Yangtze Economy of CTBU, and exchanged insight on macro-economy of Chongqing with Professor Huang Zhiliang, Vice President of CTBU, Han Yan, Head of the International Cooperation and Exchanges Division of CTBU, Professor Xu, Dr. Peng Guochuan of the Chongqing Academy of Social Science, and Yang Wenju, Deputy Director of the Center.

To begin with, Professor Huang extended his warm welcome to Mr. Ericsson. During the exchange, Professor Huang, with the assistance of data and individual cases, briefed the economic development of Chongqing in the first three quarters of 2012 from six aspects, namely, the quick industrial growth, thriving product sales, thriving tourism, rapid financial industry growth, booming growth of creative industry and dynamic employment. Then, Professor Huang analyzed from 8 aspects the factors promoting the sound economic development of Chongqing: (1) The economic and social development strategy for Chongqing transferred from national plan; (2) the accelerated development of urbanization and industrialization; (3) the manifestation effect of promoting the comprehensive productive capacity of Chongqing for being a municipality directly under the central government for 15 years; (4) the emerging effect of the balancing urban and rural comprehensive coordinated reforms; (5) significant effect of three carriages to economic development; (6) vital economies in districts and counties and enhanced domestic cooperation; (7) unprecedented emphasis on social harmony and livelihood improvement; and (8) constant improvement of eco-environment and living environment. Huang also answered in a detailed manner the questions of the concern of Mr. Ericsson regarding the role of “Eight Companies” for Chongqing’s development, private enterprises financing, housing price of Chongqing, and so on.

Towards the end of the visit, professors present and Mr. Ericsson had in-depth discussions on the capital resources for small-loan companies in Chongqing, and development of virtual and real economy.
