On December 21, the 1st Migrants’ Prosperity and Stability of Water Conservancy and Hydropower Projects and Sustainable Development of the Yangtze River Area Forum was held in our school. The forum was co-hosted by Regional Science Association of China and our school, and organized by Research Center of the Economy of the Upper Reaches of the Yangtze River, Collaborative Innovation Center of Urban Agglomeration Industry Development in Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Zone, Chongqing Industrial Economics Institute of Regional Science Association of China, Chongqing Regional Economics Society, and Doctorial Talents Cultivation Office of the Million Migrants’ Prosperity and Stability in the Three Gorges Reservoir Area, etc. It attracted almost a hundred Regional Economics experts and scholars within and outside of Chongqing. The forum started from migration issues and relevant economic issues of the Yangtze River valley, and involved some aspects like prosperity and stability of Immigrants, problems in the construction of Yangtze River Economic Belt, further development of the Yangtze River Valley and construction of the fourth shipping center, ecological economy and carbon emission, and the economic integration of this region, etc.
Yang Jirui, President of our school and Director of Research Center of the Economy of the Upper Reaches of the Yangtze River, Deputy Director Pengliang of Migration Department of Chongqing, Professor Xiang Shujian of Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, Researcher Liu Shiqing of Sichuan Academy of Social Sciences, Professor Fuchun of Nanchang university, Professor Huang Zhiliang, Vice President of our school, and Deputy Director Wen Chuanhao of Research Center of the Economy of the Upper Reaches of the Yangtze River, attended the forum. There were also many representative experts from Southwest University of Political Science and Law, Wuhan University, Chongqing University, Nanchang University, Guizhou University of Finance and Economics, and other relevant institutes.
The forum mainly included four rounds of keynote speech, and more than 30 experts and scholars successively shared their research findings. During the session, there were also interactive communications between the audience and the experts and scholars.
In the morning, the keynote speech session was held in Lecture Hall 50408 of Tin Ka Ping Building. President Yang Jirui delivered a report named New Immigrants HOPSCA: the Framework of Ten Institution Arrangements. He pointed out that the core of Three Gorges Reservoir migration problem was promoting production areas integration, production and life integration, urban and rural integration; we must gradually improve the institution system, management service and employment settlement, truly achieving the objective of “stay, be stable, and become well off”. Wen Chuanhao, Deputy Director of Research Center of the Economy of the Upper Reaches of the Yangtze River, mentioned in his report Research on the Changes of Environmental, Economic and Social Development in Special Geographical Unit of Three Gorges Reservoir Area, that the economic development, social progress, and environment improvement were driving force to the development of reservoir area and the key to the migrant problem. To develop the reservoir area, on one hand we must rely on the coordinated development of economy and environment; on the other, we must establish more communication platforms such as academic forum so that we could build the basic database and promote effective academic exchanges. Deputy Director Pengliang of migration Department of Chongqing, Professor Xiang Shujian of Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, Researcher Liu Shiqing of Sichuan Academy of Social Sciences, Professor Fuchun of Nanchang university, Professor Huang Zhiliang, Vice President of our school, Researcher Liao Yuanhe of our school, Professor Wang Yongping of Guizhou University of Finance and Economics, Professor Yangyong of Chongqing Three Gorges University, and Professor Luo Dongqi of our school delivered the keynote speech as well.
In the afternoon, the forum continued in the Practice Building, and the participants discussed relevant sub-topic of migration and economic issues of the region in a deeper level. They studied the economy of Yangtze River basin and the migration from the perspective of different disciplines and fields.
Some reporters interviewed Deputy Director Wen Chuanhao after the forum. He said that this forum had achieved a complete success, and hopefully next year’s topic for discussion could be more targeted. He also emphasized that just as the database of natural science, the building of basic database of humanities required joint efforts of several generations, and he hoped that day would come sooner.
