This Master’s Program is set up in National Research Center for Upper Yangtze Economy.

Disciplinary Name: Regional Economics

This Program has 4 concentrations, namely regional economic theory and policy, regional economic development strategy and planning, urbanization and urban economy and regional commerce and market.

The Program aims to cultivate high-level professionals with competence to specialize in scientific research on regional economics and related fields, economic management and policy analysis as well as higher education. The main courses in this Program include intermediate macroeconomics, intermediate microeconomics, applied mathematical statistics, intermediate econometrics, regional development theory and policy, development economics, industrial economics, research methodology in Economics, regional Economic Analysis Methods, researches on China’s regional economy, etc.

The faculty at the Program comprises 40 teachers, of whom 22 are professors, 16 associate professors; 19 have received Doctor’s Degree and 11 Master’s Degree. There is one national expert with outstanding contributions, 2 provincial & ministerial experts with remarkable contributions; 3 academic and technological leaders, 4 experts who enjoy the State Council Special Allowance, 6 doctoral supervisors and 22 master’s supervisors.

During the recent five years, the faculty at the Program has undertaken over 200 different projects, of which about 30 projects has won provincial and ministerial awards. More than 300 papers and 30 academic works were published, 70 research and consulting reports were submitted and 16 large-scale academic exchanges were held. At present, the Program has formed its own distinct characteristics and advantages in research on economic development of the Three Gorges Reservoir Area, and industrial restructuring, industrial development and urbanization of the upper reaches of Yangtze River.

In recent years, graduates from the Program enjoyed have found decent jobs and had good salary. They mainly work in banks, government organizations, colleges and universities, large and medium-sized enterprises and public institutions, etc. Annual high-quality employment rate exceeds 80%.

The Program boasts more than 7000 Chinese books, over 1250 foreign books and 114 Chinese and foreign journals. Offices and research labs occupy an area of 1,100 ㎡, on which there are computer operating rooms and complete information networks and other research and teaching facilities.

Introduction to Some Teachers at the Program

Professor Chen Xinli, Dean of College of Economics in Chongqing Technology and Business University (CTBU), Deputy Director of the National Research Center for Upper Yangtze Economy, excellent backbone teacher of Chongqing has published three academic monographs such as Regional Economic Environment and Education Economic Theory and Policy in recent years. He also published 18 academic papers in journals such as The Journal of Quantitative & Technical Economics and Consumer Economics. Professor Chen has been leading and main researcher of 30 projects, among which he has accomplished as the principal investigator 1 national sub-project, 6 provincial and ministerial projects and 12 projects funded by public institutions and enterprises; and has worked on and concluded 2 national projects, 3 provincial and ministerial projects and 5 enterprises-funded projects. Now he is the principal investigator for a provincial and ministerial project and 4 enterprises-funded projects. Professor Chen won the third prize of Chongqing Science and Technology Progress Award for his two works Research on Investment Environment of Yuzhong District and Comparative Study of Western and Eastern Development and Strategic Decision on Western Development, and the second prize for Scientific and Technological Planning for Sustainable Development of the Three Gorges Reservoirs Area. The Boosting Effects of Chongqing’s Education on Economy won the first prize of the Outstanding Social and Scientific Achievement Award.

Professor Gan Qin is a Doctor of Management, Deputy Dean of Chongqing University of Science and Technology, and a professional trainer of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security. He is also an excellent backbone teacher, the academic leader of CTBU and the second-tier talent in Chongqing “322” Talents Project, one of the earliest group of master instructors as well as a researcher for the Center. Professor Gan has held other posts successively such as Deputy Secretary, Deputy Director, Director of research department and Associate Editor of the School’s academic journal, Director of Teaching Affairs Office and Director of Higher Education Research Institute of CTBU and Director of Higher Education Office of Chongqing Municipal Education Commission. In 2007, he was awarded as one of the best municipal master advisors for outstanding thesis. In recent years, Professor Gan has undertaken 12 national, provincial and ministerial projects, 10 enterprise-funded projects and 2 international cooperation projects. At present, he is working on a soft science project, an enterprise-funded project and participating in 2 provincial and ministerial projects. Up to now, he has published 15 academic works and over 70 papers, some of which were remarkable such as Personal Investment Loan on China’s Higher Education, Research on Rural and Urban Integration and Commerce and Trade Strategies (the second author), Study on Trade Development of Chongqing (the second author) and a textbook Business Negotiation with related teaching reference books funded by the Ministry of Finance and the general teaching material Public Relations. Professor Gan has won many national and municipla awards for his academic achievements and excellent teaching. In 2009, he won a second prize of National Teaching Award for Higher Education; a second prize and a third prize of The Third Chongqing Municipal People’s Government Excellent Social and Scientific Achievements Award in 2003; a third prize of The Second Chongqing Municipal People’s Government Excellent Social and Scientific Achievements Award in 2001. Moreover, he was awarded as “Chongqing’s Excellent Young and Middle-aged Teacher” in 2004 and “Advanced Individual in Scientific Research Management of Colleges and Universities” by the Ministry of Education of China in 2001.

Professor Chen Tianpei graduated from Southwest Normal University in July 1987 and then worked in Chongqing Normal College (now called Chongqing University of Arts and Sciences) up to today. Professor Chen received his Master’s Degree in Southwest Jaotong University in July 2001. Now he works as Dean of Economics and Management Department in Chongqing University of Arts and Sciences (CUAS). Also, he is a member of CUAS Academic Board, a member of CUAS Teaching Commission as well as a master instructor in Chongqing Technology and Business University. He was conferred the title of “Chongqing’s Excellent Young and Middle-aged Teacher”. As the Deputy Director of Chongqing Capital and Socialist Market Economics Society, Professor Chen focuses his study on economic development of Chongqing and Sichuan area, and agriculture issues. He has published more than 40 papers in different journals such as Reform of Economic System, Economic Survey, Reformation and Strategy, Academic Exploration and Rural Economy, among which 13 papers were included in the Information Center for Social Sciences of Renmin University of China and the three major retrieval systems SCI, EI and ISTP. Professor Chen was interviewed by China Chongqing TV (CCQTV) and Yongchuan TV for 4 times. He published 3 monographs and has been the leading researcher of and participated in 5 projects at or above municipal level.

Professor Luo Dongqi graduated from Southwest University with a Doctor’s Degree in June 2003. In 2005, he was promoted as an associate professor and hired as a master instructor in Guangxi University. From July 2006 to June 2007, Professor Luo was assigned as Deputy Director of Tourism Administration of Chengkou County to help the poor. In June 2007, he worked as Deputy Director of CTUB Economic & Management Experimental Teaching Center (a national demonstration center). In 2010, he was promoted as professor of economics. Now he serves as Dean of CTBU School of Business Planning. Professor Luo specializes in research of regional economic planning, land planning, land management, rural land policy and assumes teaching of courses including regional economic planning, land resources, land policy and regulation, land economics, land and macro-control, environmental ethics, etc. He published about 60 papers, a textbook Comprehensive Training Course for 3S and Regional Economic and 5 monographs such as Intensive Use of Rural Land. He also has completed a project supported by National Social Science Fund, a youth project f sponsored by the Ministry of Education and about 20 enterprise-funded projects. At present, Professor Luo is working on a key sub-project funded by Chongqing Science and Technology Commission, a scientific and technological project funded by Chongqing Municipal Education Commission, a soft science project funded Chongqing Science and Technology Commission and 2 enterprise-funded projects. Professor Luo has been awarded many times by Chongqing Municipal People’s Government, Chongqing Municipal Organization Department, Chongqing Municipal Education Commission and Chongqing Science and Technology Commission.

Professor Zhou Lixin, Doctor of Management, Postdoctoral Researcher of Economics, Par-Eu Scholar. She is mainly engaged in the teaching and research of regional economy, industrial economy and business management. She was granted as Academic/Technology Research Leader of CTBU in June 2007, and nominated as Academic/Technology Research Leader Candidate of Chongqing (Business Management) in 2008. In recent five years, she has led and finished 6 research projects at ministerial and provincial-level or above, including National Social Science Fund Project, China Postdoctoral Science Foundation Project, Chongqing Soft Science Research Project, and Chongqing Planning Project of Philosophy and Social Science. She also has worked on and finished 10 important projects including National Natural Science Fund Project, and Major Project Entrusted by Chongqing Municipal Committee. Presently she is leading a National Social Science Fund Project, a First Batch of Talents Funding Project in Chongqing Colleges and Universities, and a Scientific and Technological Research Program of Chongqing Municipal Education Commission. She has published an academic monograph and planned to publish another one; she has published more than 40 papers in major and core domestic academic journals, such as Journal of Quantitative & Technical Economics, China Soft Science, Nankai Business Review, and Journal of Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management, etc.; the academic achievements of projects she led and participated won a second and third prize of Science and Technology Progress by Chongqing Municipal People’ Government; and some of them was adopted by local government and enterprises, which achieved notable economic and social benefits.

Professor Zeng Qingjun, Director of Scientific Research Section in CTBU, Academic/Technology Research Leader of CTBU, Academic/Technology Research Leader Candidate of Chongqing in Industrial Economics, First Batch Outstanding Young and Middle-aged Key Teacher of Chongqing Colleges and Universities, Member of Academic Committee of CTBU, Member of Education Committee of CTBU, Member of Degrees Committee of CTBU, and Member of Professional Title Evaluation Committee of CTBU, etc. He is also Part-time Standing Member of the Commerce Economy Association of China and the Trade and Economics Teaching Research Association, Vice President of Chongqing On Capital and Socialist Market Economy Research Association and Chongqing Migrants and Economic Development Research Association, and Standing Member of Chongqing Regional Economy Research Association, etc. He is mainly engaged in the research on business economy and regional economy, as well as regional commerce research and regional business planning. He has published over 80 academic papers including more than 20 core journal papers, and 10 Monographs (including cooperated ones); he is the chief editor of a state-compiled textbook and the leading researcher of a national social science fund project, 15 ministerial and provincial-level projects, and more than 30 projects funded by governments or public institutions and enterprises. He has won a first award for National Teaching Achievement, a first award, a second award and 2 third awards for Chongqing High Education Teaching Achievement, and 2 second awards and 5 third awards for Chongqing Scientific Research Achievement.

Professor Tang Luyuan, Ph.D. in Economics. From September 1998 to July 2001, he was pursuing his doctoral research. From July 2001 to August 2002, he worked in People’s Government of Dongpo district of Meishan, Sichuan. And since 2002, he has been working in CTBU.

Yi Xiaoguang, Researcher and President of Comprehensive Economic Research Institute, Chongqing Development and Reform Commission, Expert with State Council Special Allowance, Member of Chongqing Committee of CPPCC, Deputy Director of Subcommittee of Economy of CPPCC, Adjunct Professor in CTBU and Chongqing Institute of Socialism, Principal Investigator of Western Project of Social Science at national level. Professor Han Yuhui, Expert with State Council Special Allowance. He successively served as Leader of Development Institute, Economics Institute, Enterprise Institute, Director of City and Tourism Institute, and Director of Urban and Rural Development Institute. In 2004 he transferred to our university. He has accomplished more than 20 scientific research projects in national, provincial and municipal level, and proposed a number of policy suggestions. He has won 9 ministerial and provincial-level government awards, and 3 deputy ministerial and provincial-level government awards. He is also the supervisor of postgraduates in Tourism Economics in College of Tourism, Chongqing Normal University; he has been teaching in Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications for four years, and working as supervisor of postgraduates in Information Economics Theory. Previously, he was in charge of some undergraduate and graduate courses, such as macroeconomics, microeconomics, history of economic theory, economic history and tourism economics management, etc. Presently he is mainly in charge of the teaching of development economics and regional economics.

Professor Rao Guangming, Ph.D., Director of Experimental Teaching Center of Economics and Management in CTBU, Legislative Consultant of the Standing Committee of the 3rd Chongqing Municipal People's Congress, Member of Chongqing Social Sciences Expert Database, Director of University Journals Association of Chongqing, Former Deputy Director of Journal Editorial Department of CTBU, Associate Editor of the Western Forum magazine. He has been the leading researcher of more than 10 ministerial and provincial-level projects such as Innovation Research on WTO and Going Out Strategy of Motorcycle Industry in Chongqing, and has accomplished two projects funded by National Social Science foundation, namely Research on Several National-level Poverty-stricken Counties and its Countermeasures and Research on Regional Innovation Strategy of the Upper Yangtze River in Western Development, and the Chongqing Social Sciences Planning project Research on the Construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing-Guiyang-Nanning Economic Zone in Western Development. He has published more than 40 academic papers at home and abroad such as the Analysis on Chongqing Industry CO2 Emissions Efficiency Difference and Its Emissions Reduction Potentials, etc., which have been recorded in full text by EI, ISTP, CSSCI and other domestic and foreign academic retrieval systems. He also has published 5 monographs.

Professor Xiexin, Ph.D. in Economics, Columbia University, Par-Eu Scholar, Distinguished Expert by Chongqing Municipal People’s Government, Director of International Trade and Investment Institute. He is mainly engaged in researches on international trade and investment, financial market and regional economics. In recent years he has been the principal investigator of 5 projects, the main researcher of 4 projects, and published more than 20 papers at home and abroad. He boasts not only theoretical research achievements in the international academic frontier, but also many years’ experience of analysis on macro economy and international trade and investment. His representative research achievements include the paper Contagion Through Interactive Production and the Dynamic Effects of Trade, International Economic Review, February. 1999 (Section 1 Publications of English academic journal) and monograph Full View integrated Technical Analysis , John Wiley and the Sones, 2011 (the world's largest independent academic press). His recent published articles are Pay Attention to the Efficiency of Narrowing down the Income Gap" (Theory Page of People's Daily, 2011.5.3) and Policy Adjustment, Dynamic Development and Low-income People’s Welfare" (Reform, 2011.5), etc.

Yang Qingyu, Senior Economist, Ph.D. In recent five years he has published a total of 20 papers in major domestic and foreign academic journals, three monographs (translation works), and won 10 awards including 2 ministerial and provincial-level awards. In recent three years, he has undertaken 10 projects including 1 national level and 3 ministerial and provincial-level projects. His representative achievements are monographs Macro-control Theory on Provincial-level, Macroeconomic Regulation and Government Management, etc.

Research Zhu Lifen is a doctor. She graduated from Center for Chinese Agricultural Policy of Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, CAS in 2006 and obtained her Doctor’s Degree. She is now a full-time researcher of the Center (MOE Key Research Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences) in CTBU. She focuses her research predominantly on regional economic theory and policy, regional development strategy and planning, agricultural economy and rural development, etc. She has conducted extensive studies on urbanization and agricultural development policy, regional development strategy and planning and management of agricultural economy. She participated in multiple domestic and foreign researches and attended many international academic conferences. She has by far published over 20 papers in major academic journals both at home and abroad, such as Economic Research Journal and Chinese Rural Economy, among which 9 papers were published in international journals.

Professor Wang Yan is a doctor and Vice Dean of School of Business Planning of CTBU. She published more than 30 papers in CSSCI journals and was the principal investigator or main researcher of over 20 research projects at provincial and ministerial level. Most of the research achievements have been adopted by relevant institutions and government bodies and have taken certain social and economic effect in practice as basis for decision making.

Associate Professor Liu Changyong is a doctor. He has published over 10 papers since 2005, among which 8 are in the list of CSSCI. And he has accomplished and participated over 20 research projects, of which 6 are at national level and 8 are at provincial and ministerial level.

National Economics

The Master’s Program in National Economics is set up in National Research Center for Upper Yangtze Economy. Major code is 020201 and major name is National Economics.

Currently, the Program offers 3 concentrations, namely operation and macro control of national economy, public economic theory and policy, and open macroeconomic theory and policy.

Based on the guiding principle of “Education should be geared to the needs of modernization, of the world and of the future” and in accordance with the requirements of all-round development, the Program dedicates to cultivating high-level professionals who have solid expertise, wide knowledge, strong practice ability, high comprehensive quality and innovative spirit and can engage in scientific research on regional economics and related fields, economic management, policy analysis and higher education. The main courses include Intermediate Microeconomics, Intermediate Macroeconomics, National Economics, The Economic Theory of Socialism, Intermediate Econometrics, Economics of Regulation, Models and Methods of Macro-economy, Government Administration and Effectiveness, and Analysis of Macroeconomic Policy, etc.

The faculty at the Program consists of 16 teachers, of whom 6 are professors and 10 are associate professors; 8 have Doctor’s Degree and 8 have Master’s Degree.

In recent five years, the whole team of the Program has published 150 papers in Economic Research Journal, China Economic Quarterly, Economic Perspectives and The Journal of Quantitative & Technical Economics. It has undertaken 5 projects supported by National Social Science Fund or Natural Science Foundation of China and over 40 projects funded by provincial and ministerial organs, Chongqing Statistics Bureau, Chongqing Tourism Administration and governments of districts and counties. Some of the scientific achievements were consulted or directly adopted by National Bureau of Statistics of PRC, Chongqing Municipal Party Committee and People’s Government and relevant authorities. Among them, China’s GDP and Its Several Statistical Problems (published in Economic Research Journal) in particular was reprinted in full text by Xinhua Digest and was cited in many occasions by economists like Liu Can and Li Jinhua. It was regarded as a masterpiece comprehensively analyzing the defects and deficiencies of China’s GDP and was awarded with the first prize of Chongqing Municipal Social Science Research and the second prize of Humanities and Social Sciences Research in Universities of Ministry of Education.

Introduction to the faculty at the Program:

Professor Yang Wenju is a doctor and Deputy Director of the Center. He mainly focuses his study on development economics, national economics and related domains. Professor Yang has published a monograph independently and over 30 academic papers in The Journal of World Economy, Economic Perspectives, and The Journal of Quantitative & Technical Economics etc. In recent years, he has been the leading researcher of 5 projects which included projects funded by Natural Science Foundation of China, humanities and social sciences projects funded by Ministry of Education and provincial and ministerial projects. He has also been the main researcher of approximately 20 projects funded by governments or public institutions and enterprises. He won the Best Doctoral Dissertation Award of Hubei Province in 2007 and Outstanding Teacher Award of CTBU in 2008.

Associate Professor Liu Wei is a doctor, teacher of School of Management of CTBU and part-time researcher of the Center. He has published over 20 papers in Management World, The Journal of Quantitative & Technical Economics and Research on Financial and Economic Issues. And he has been the leading researcher or main researcher of over 10 projects supported by National Social Science Fund, Natural Science Foundation of China or Ministry of Education.

Associate Professor Xu Xiaocang is a doctor, teacher of School of Economics of CTBU and part-time researcher of the Center. He concentrates his study in macroeconomic control and financial theory and policy. He was the leading researcher of a humanities and social sciences project (project concerning the west and borderland) funded by Ministry of Education, titled Bank Competition, Credit and Effectiveness of Monetary Policy: Based on the Comparative Study of 30 years’ Regional Development Since Reform and Opening Up (Grant No.: 09XJC790023). He was the main researcher of 2 projects supported by National Social Science Fund, a research project of Chongqing Soft Science and a scientific and technological project funded by Chongqing Education Commission. He also was the main researcher of several projects funded by public institutions and enterprises, and the leading researcher of an educational reform project. He published over 10 research papers, 2 papers regarding educational reform and a monograph in core journals.

Quantitative Economics

The Master’s Program in Quantitative Economics is set up in National Research Center for Upper Yangtze Economy. Major code is 020209 and major name is Quantitative Economics.

Currently, the Program offers 3 concentrations, namely analysis and prediction of econometrics, game theory and its application, and analysis of spatial econometrics.

The Program aims to cultivate high-level professionals who are innovative and prudent towards science, well provided with economic theory and knowledge of quantitative economics, have good moral quality and can conduct economic research and economic management based on the demand of socialist market economy. The main courses include intermediate microeconomics, intermediate macroeconomics, intermediate econometrics, time series analysis, analysis of panel data, game theory and information economics, mathematical economics, and research methodology of economics, etc.

The faculty at the Program comprises 17 teachers, of whom 6 are professors and 5 are associate professors; 3 have received Doctor’s Degree and 9 Master’s Degree.

The whole team of the Program has been focused on the education and study of Quantitative Economics for many years and has made fruitful and high-quality achievements which involved a wide range of fields. Many of them won provincial and ministerial prizes or prizes awarded by various academies, and were highly praised by domestic and foreign peers. In recent years, members of the team have accomplished 15 national or provincial projects, won 5 prizes at national or provincial level, and published 3 monographs and over 120 academic papers.

Introduction to the faculty at the Program:

Professor Liu Chengjie has written or co-written 2 monographs and published 9 academic papers, of which 4 are included in CSSCI source papers. He mainly focuses on the research of industrial economics, macroeconomic models, income distribution and statistical analysis of tax and teaches industrial economics, western economics, econometrics, statistics, time series analysis, statistical analysis software and economic mathematics, etc.

Professor Chen Jiping is a doctor and full-time teacher of Econometrics Section, Department of Economics. He focuses his study predominantly on quantitative economics, game theory and information economics and spatial econometric analysis. In recent years, he has published almost 20 academic papers in Chinese Journal of Population Science and The Economist, etc. And he has been the leading researcher of 2 projects respectively sponsored by Ministry of Education and key research institute of Ministry of Education and the main researcher of over 10 projects funded by public institutions and enterprises at all levels.

Associate Professor Sun Jianfu, doctor. He received his Bachelor of Science from Northeast Normal University, Master of Quantitative Economics from Huaqiao University and Doctor of Technological Economics from Chongqing University. He mainly focuses his study on applied quantitative economics, industrial organization and evaluation of innovative policy. In Computer Engineering and Applications, Science Research Management and Scientific Research, he published over 20 papers involving complex system modeling, system dynamic modeling, modeling of applied econometrics and organization theory. Since 2001, he has participated in nearly 40 projects supported by National Social Science Fund, National Natural Science Foundation of China, Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, National Departments, Social Science and Natural Science Fund at provincial and municipal level or various institutions and corporations. He has accomplished a youth project funded by Ministry of Education and a scientific research project sponsored by Chongqing Municipal Education Commission. He won the third prize of Chongqing Scientific and Technological Progress Award. And his paper The Study of Spatial Distance of Knowledge Spillover in Chinese Regions was reprinted in full text by Regional and Urban Economy published by Renmin University of China.
