With a fine weather and osmanthus’ fragrance on the afternoon of October 30, at the invitation of theCenter, Director Liu Jianmin of Department of Village and Township Construction, Chongqing Municipal Commission of Urban-rural Development, visited the Center and delivered an academic report titled Problems, Reasons and Countermeasures of the Construction and Development of Village and Town in Chongqing. Vice-president Huang Zhi-liang, Deputy-director Yang Wenju, doctoral students of 2014, all the postgraduate students of 2013 and 2014 participated in the lecture.
Director Liu Jianming firstly briefed the basic situation of villages and towns in Chongqing. Then he introduced the problems in construction and development of village and town of Chongqing from nine aspects such as land, capital, industry, and finally elaborated on the countermeasures to the nine big problems. Director Liu explained profound theories with simple words. Among them, “Nothing comes from the ground and nothing falls down from heaven (which means weak income of village and town, single source and channel, and city supporting village and industry nurturing agriculture becomingempty talkwith weak financial support from higher-level authorities)” was not only vivid but also impressive. The students discussed some relevant issues with Director Liu Jianming.
After the lecture, Professor Huang Zhiliang offered three suggestions to students: (1) Be down to earth, and value practice; (2) Be professional in solving problems; (3) Bear responsibilities. Words from Professor Huang Zhiliang were thought-provoking and impressive.
Finally, the academic lecture ended in applauses. The lecture given by Director Liu Jianming brought an academic feast for all of us, which was inspiring to our professional studies.
